Video Proposal

by

Idea 1:

Education is an important part of today’s society but trying to teach children of the television and videogame age can be a challenge.  If they are able to enjoy the subject they are learning as well as learn it in an easy-to-recall manner that resembles something they know or can relate to, then retaining the information will be easier.  I would like to create my video on a school subject, most likely a science or history subject, and fashion it into something that school children, or children in general, can learn or use to help learn a subject.  By using both animation and live shooting, I hope to create something fun, short, and informative.

Idea 2:

Disease and how different parts of the body function are a part of every person’s life.  There are many patients suffering from illnesses and needing to undergo treatment but still know nothing or understand very little of what is going on.  I would like to create a video illustrating either how a specific body organ (such as the eye) functions or how a certain disease behaves and how various treatments will affect it.  With animation, research, and, possibly, a short interview with a doctor in the specific area, it is my endeavor to create an informative and short production that will educate patients or those who are curious.

Of the two ideas, I like the first one best. Now, both of these projects seem to favor informational modes of address. You will still be making points, but your concern will be to educate rather than convince or change minds. It will be much more interesting for me to see how you use the skills that you have learned and directed them to educating a very select audience. I also think there is a need for these types of compositions. I will also be very interested in your reflective commentary about the kinds of choices you will have to make in terms of digital media and addressing a younger audience.
